Two BBC presenters suspended
for sex joke
London,
Oct 29 (IANS) The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Wednesday
suspended two of its most popular and high-profile television
presenters after being deluged with complaints about a lewd
radio prank.
Jonathan
Ross and Russell Brand were suspended for leaving a series
of messages on the answerphone of a veteran television actor
Andrew Sachs, in which the two boasted Brand had had sex with
Sachs' 23-year-old granddaughter.
The
pre-recorded messages were then broadcast by the BBC Oct 18
and caused a public furore when reported by a newspaper last
week.
Some
18,000 people had complained to the BBC, the corporation said.
BBC
director general Mark Thompson said the two presenters had
crossed “the line of taste” and caused “severe offence”.
"This
gross lapse of taste by the performers and the production
team has angered licence payers,” he added.
