"After our youngest son had seen Star Wars for the twelfth or thirteenth time, I said, "Why do you go so often?" He said, "For the same reason you have been reading the Old Testament all of your life." He was in a new world of myth." Bill Moyers, interview with Joseph Campbell

Dubai, Oct 28 (IANS) The next time you are in Dubai, you can try to make the loudest scream, shout, clap or whistle to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

Global Village, a popular winter cultural and entertainment destination in this west Asian metropolis, announced Tuesday that it will host a Guinness World Records Pavilion, where people can try and set world records in a variety of categories.

In the course of a 102-day seasonal event, the pavilion will feature the loudest scream, shout, clap, and whistle and will also organise daily competitions to judge the fastest time in sending a text message, and the fastest typist on a computer keyboard utilising the nose.

In all, participants will be able to set records in 14 different categories of activities.

“We are proud to welcome the Guinness World Records Pavilion to Dubai for the first time ever,” Abdul Redha Ali Bin Redha, project director of Global Village, said in a statement.

“The pavilion will serve as the only such platform in the world where people can enter and attempt to break a world record, based on activities and contests,” he added.

According to Guinness World Records managing director Alistair Richards, the new pavilion took several months in the making.

“As a world first for us, we are all excited to see what we hope will be many delighted guests of this innovative family entertainment venue and many new Guinness World Record holders created during the 102 days of the event,” he said.

This year, Global Village will open its doors Nov 12 and run till Feb 21 next year.

A large-scale world record attempt will also be organised to celebrate the international day of Guinness World Records, Global Village said in the statement though it did not go into details.

Global Village is a member of Tatweer Dubai, a subsidiary of Dubai World, the Dubai government’s investment vehicle.
