Islamabad, Jan 30 (IANS) Pakistan has completed its "preliminary
investigation" into the Mumbai attacks based on the information
provided by India and Islamabad would share the findings with
New Delhi and the world, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi
said Friday.
Speaking to reporters here, the minister said, “The Federal
Investigation Agency (FIA) of the interior ministry of Pakistan
has completed the preliminary investigation and sent it to
the Law Department.”
The "preliminary investigation" was based on information
provided by India about the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, he
said.
He said after review by the Law Department, the probe report
would be sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then
shared with India and the international community.
Qureshi said: “Pakistan has assured India and the world community
that it is seriously making progress in the process of investigation
of the Mumbai attacks and wants to bring the culprits to justice.”
“Pakistan wants peace in the region and good relations with
its neighbours,” he said.
Qureshi said Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Shahid
Malik held a meeting with the Indian home minister on Friday
and updated him on the latest developments regarding investigation
into the Mumbai attacks, Aaj TV reported.
He said Pakistan always condemned terrorism and extremism
in all forms anywhere in the world and it had been promoting
the message of peace and brotherhood. Pakistan did not want
confrontation in the region with anyone as it wants to concentrate
on its economic development and on strengthening its democratic
process.
Referring to "threats" to High Commissioner to India
Shahid Malik, Qureshi said the issue was taken up with the
Indian government and he had been provided additional security.
The minister was speaking to reporters after addressing an
international conference on Hazrat Ghous Bahauddin Zakira
at the International Islamic University.
